In his first interview since retiring abruptly from Boxing, Floyd Mayweather Jr. lashed out at HBO commentators Jim Lampley, Larry Merchant and Emanuel Steward. Mayweather Jr. lashed out for the criticism he has received on HBO telecasts.

Speaking to David Mayo of the Grand Rapids Press, in his first interview since retirement, Mayweather criticized the network's announcers for a bias against black fighters, and for being hypocrites when judging others for doing the same things some of them do.

Mayweather Jr. stated to the Grand Rapids Press: "Jim Lampley, Larry Merchant, Emanuel Steward, they're always talking about the negative things in my life."

Mayweather Jr. went on to add: "But I've seen Jim Lampley in the same strip club as me before. They always want to talk about me going to strip clubs, but they don't want to talk about that."

Mayweather Jr. further ripped Lampley for legal problems stemming from an incident last year in which Lampley received three years' probation for violating a restraining order brought by a live-in girlfriend. She had accused Lampley of domestic abuse. Mayweather stated: "He caught a court case himself, too. But when they catch a case, all they do is take them off the air a couple weeks, then it's over."
